Cities in Pasco County FL

Lacoochee was once the home of wealthy strawberry and citrus farmers up until 1895 when the big freeze came and killed off the fruit industry in town. This freeze left the small community of Lacoochee looking for another industry to bring money into the town for prosperity. In 1922 when the Cummers? relocated to Florida from Michigan, the family established a business known as Cummer and Sons Cypress Co. The Cummers built a Pecky Cypress sawmill and box factory. This is when Lacoochee, Florida began to prosper. Pecky Cypress is now an expensive lumber that is used for decorative pieces, but in the early 1900s it was considered a nuisance lumber. The town of Lacoochee grew around the lumber mill with Cummer and Sons building rental homes and company stores for the employees of the mill. During the Great Depression Lacoochee survived due to the saw-mill continually employing a mass majority of the towns citizens. The mill would often give away free lumber that was too hard and residents would use this wood for their stoves and to build homes. The mill closed in 1959 and the town of Lacoochee (named after the river on which it lies) began to vanish, however, with the loyal bond with the residents and town, Lacoochee has grown to be the beautiful community that it is today.

Lacoochee, Florida is a small community of less than 1,500 residents that lies on the Withlacoochee River in northeast Pasco County. Conviently located on the river, Lacoochee residents have access to some of the most incredible paddling, tubing and swimming. Nature is in abundance in Lacoochee with its multitudes of birds, reptiles and fish. The fishing is excellent along the river! Only 40 miles from Tampa, Lacoochee provides the opportunity of a days drive to some of Floridas most amazing attractions. Busch Gardens offers, not only some of the most thrilling roller coasters in Florida but an incredible zoo with more than 2,700 animals! Located next to Busch Gardens one of Floridas largest water parks, Adventure Island. Adventure Island is 30 acres of some of Florida?s wettest entertainment. With high speed rides, a kiddie pool and a lazy river, Adventure Island is a great way to spend a hot sunny Florida day!

Relocating to Lacoochee Florida can bring back that small community feeling so long forgotten.
